Winter can wreck your hair. The killer combo of dry heat and static and bitter winter wind can make your gorgeous locks looking anything but healthy and shiny. Here are a few tips to help you get the best looking head of winter hair.
Employing simple changes in your diet can make a big difference in the condition of your hair. When winter strikes, its never a bad idea to stock up on foods that help stimulate hair growth. WebMD recommends salmon and other foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids to help your scalp fight dryness. Combining a mix of high quality protein foods like nuts, beans, and lean poultry is another great way to keep your hair strong and glowing during the winter months.

When the weather gets cold, it’s vital that you use products that are designed to keep hair moisturized. Any time you shampoo your hair you should follow with a conditioner. Use a deep conditioner at least once or twice a week depending on the condition of your mane and your hair type. When you rinse conditioner out of your hair, opt for lukewarm water instead of hot to help close the hair cuticles and retain shine.
To avoid over drying your hair, try to refrain from washing your hair every day. A dry shampoo or foam is a great way to lengthen the span of time between washes and it won’t dry out your hair.
To keep your hair looking gorgeous, avoid washing your hair in hot water, because a lot of heat will remove all of the natural oils from your hair along with the shine. You should also use your hair dryer, flat iron or curling iron as sparingly as possible. The less heat, the better.
Combining these tips will help you maintain a healthy gorgeous head of hair in the winter. Eat well, use specially designed products, and avoid damaging your hair with heat, and your hair will look great through the winter and into the spring.
